Music is such an integral part of worship at Eastminster. From the prelude to the benediction, the Gloria Patri or the anthem, music permeates and often provides a means of spiritual expression like no other method of worship can. Whether one is listening, playing, or singing, music speaks to the heart, touches the soul, and stirs emotion in ways that the spoken word cannot.

There are many ways to actively participate in the musical program at Eastminster including:

  • Sanctuary Choir- The sanctuary choir performs at the 10:30 AM worship service on Sunday mornings from September through May. The repertoir for the choir ranges from the simple to moderately difficult literature. The choir has also performed larger works for for special occasions, such as Easter and Christmas. Examples of these works include Heinrich Schutz's The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross, performed with a string ensemble from the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and Easter selections from George Frederich Handel's Messiah, which was also performed with musicians from the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra along with members of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus.

The choir is open to everyone and no audition is required. Rehearsals are at 7:00 PM on Thursday from September through May.

  • Solo/Group Performance- Soloists or small groups of musicians, both instrumental and vocal, are also used in worship at Eastminster. Soloists and groups provide the anthem during the 8:00 AM worship service every week throughout the year and at the 10:30 AM service during the summer. Other opportunities also exist including special emphasis music during a morning worship service, church social functions, and the Bridge, Eastminster's alternative worship service on Sunday evenings.

Those interested in solo or group performance may contact the church office for more information.

  • Children & Youth Programs- Many times throughout the year, our children gather and prepare musical presentations for presentation to the congregation. Example of these events include Vacation Bible School musical presentations, Christmas pageants and Youth Emphasis services.
